TERENA is the "Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association", bringing together representatives of European NREN (National Research and Education Networks) to collaborate in different domains (mainly technical, but also with respect to service provision or legal issues); cf. the TERENA homepage for details.
At a 2009 workshop in Zurich on Media Management and Distribution an initiative was launched to create a Task Force on this subject-matter as representatives from various NREN and universities saw the need to exchange knowledge about the various initiatives and projects presented. After another preparatory meeting in Prague, the "TF-Media" was then officially launched January 1st 2010 to work until December 31st 2011. Details of its goals and the working areas can be found

Both goals and issues are similar to those of the Opencast Community and quite a few members are active in both groups. However, the perspective of the TF-Media is slightly different with most of its members coming from a NREN perspective. The liaison document describes these differences, but also the the overwhelming congruence of the relevant topics.
Feel free therefore to join the TF-Media mailing list and involve TF-Media in discussion whenever appropriate.
