The University of Vigo is located in the North-West of Spain and spread along three campuses in the cities of Vigo, Pontevedra and Ourense. The degrees imparted at the university cover a wide range of disciplines including Science, Law, Languages and Technology.
The Multimedia Service of the UVigo provides videoconference and audiovisual services. Since 2004, online video services are also provided, featuring recordings of university events, lectures, conferences and seminars. They are published in UVigo's own multimedia portal (UVigo TV) using a home-made, PHP-based framework (PuMuKit).
Thanks to PuMuKit, UVigo became the first Spanish-speaking university on iTunesU, and more than 1,000,000 videos were served in 2010. PuMuKit it is also used at several universities in Spain and South America.
UVigo has been a Matterhorn Project partner for more than two years. Starting with the MH release 1.0, we run our first pilot and deployed a MH-basecamp focused on the Spanish-speaking community of adopters, which we intend to foster and support.
In the academic year 2011-2012, an ambitious Matterhorn development is being deployed for the "Campus do Mar" project, which involves the installation of 10 classrooms which will record an average of 4 hours a day.
